“Sense and non-sense belonging together as two necessary parts of the whole was the central message of Dada, according to Hans Richter, pioneer of the art movement. Reason and anti-reason, design and chance, consciousness and unconsciousness, these are the things that bring balance to a work of art, according to about half of the original dadaists. The other half believed in pure non-sense, that the greatest contribution the movement had made was to leave it all to chance, to embrace the chaos as a mysterious collaborator. Although I can find myself agreeing with both sides of the argument of balance vs chaos, it seems like Metal Detector is firmly rooted in chaos. I hope you enjoy it!” -Gus
